Gary, I'd been hearing promises from Fido about the revamped Fox plus 32-bit software version for about a year before they finally sent it. It promptly erased my local database of trades, and was so buggy, I went back to the old version which I now use.
Fidelity is great, isn't it? They have without doubt the most patient customer service and tech support people...unfortunately, they sell order flow and you cannot get better than the best ask or bid on limit. If you try to split, it simply waits until the stock trades at your limit, and it's complete suicide to put in a market order. OTOH, if you try to rush through a limit order, it still isn't quick enough for catching dips on (say) Dell..That second confirmation screen slows you down just a couple of seconds too long....I was trying today and was always about 2 steps behind the fast-moving price on dips...
I'm opening an account with MBT, because finally we have cable modem, and I've used PCQuote/RTIII before, and feel it'll work a lot better with the improved bandwidth.
And I guarantee you that the Fido Web service will NEVER be up to the abilities of the RTIII setup.....Remember, RTIII allows you to buy on bid or ask, so the slightly higher commission, while annoying, is well worth being able to beat the spread occasionally.
Not only that, but I like the idea of free real time data, just for trading the equivalent of once or twice a day....
Now, I'm hoping for a commission war between the Terranova's. :^) Can you believe that just a couple of years ago, we were paying over $100 one-way ???
