I run Linux and Windows 95 on my PC, the latter not because
it is better, but because there are so many more applications
easily available. In fact, of all the operating systems I
am using/have used (Vax/VMS, Unix, Windows/DOS), Windows is
certainly the worst one, and I don't see how Windows could
have achieved its monopolistic status without questionable
practices.

Bork makes an excellent, well-reasoned case and I hope that
the court will break up Microsoft into an OS and an applications
company. By the way, I don't think that that is necessarily
bad for the share price. From a consumer's point of view, this
will force Microsoft to produce a slim operating system instead
of the present bloated approach which automatically loads
all that stuff I don't want, but eats up lots of processing power
and extends boot time. Integrating IE into Windows 98 may have
been a great mistake in this context that may well make them lose
the court case.

A good operating system should be slim, and everyone should be
able to install all the applications from whichever provider one
chooes.
