Good point, and a perfect analogy. When IBM lost control of the PC market and made other huge blunders, their share price crashed because everyone thought mainframes were on the way out. But that didn't happen. Instead, mainframe sales kept on growing, and some PC vendors are now actually starting to produce PCs that are mainframe-like in order to try and grab high-end market share. I think the same thing will happen in networking. While many try and debate who will win (low end of high end), both will grow, and fast.
