Could be that every potential licensee is waiting to see the game as it plays out with Abbott. Or maybe BTIM views its future more brightly than Nihon et al. Some of the things that BTIM execs have done are analogous to the professional athlete who turns down a multi-year deal because he thinks his stock will go up in the short term. For BTIM, this includes the royalty structure that is heavily loaded on the back end if sales are excellent and possibly the absence of new deals, ie., why do a deal right now just to get it done when you are convinced that waiting another 6 months will enhance long-term earnings.

This is certainly just a guess or even wishful thinking on my behalf but I would think that if BTIM were willing to take whatever they could get then there would have been deals by now with Nihon and European firms too.
