AMAT is up just under 15% over this past week. People are starting to look at semi-cos. tooling up for the next push into .18 micron chips. AMAT, and therefore ASTX, should benefit from this regardless of how chip prices fare. Also both AMAT and MU indicated a possible rebound in DRAM chips. This is significant in light of collapsing Asian currencies. Asian chip cos. then have a comparative advantage in pricing. They are able to cut U.S. dollar prices and still maintain the same profitability in their domestic currencies. If prices are firming up in spite of this, coupled with insignificant Asian demand, DRAM producers could be on the rebound.
