"Korea's Cellular Subscribers Exceed Three-Million"
Newsbytes Online (12/10/96); Dong-Gun, Kim

The number of cellular customers in South Korea has topped 3 million, according to sources with the Information and Communication Ministry. As of last week, cellular subscribers in Korea had increased 85 percent to 3.04 million, compared with 1.64 million customers at the end of 1995. Korea Mobile Telecom has 2.31 million analog and 500,000 digital customers, while Shinsegi Telecom has 230,000 digital subscribers. One analyst says the growth of CDMA, falling prices, and
the arrival of Shinsegi Telecom have helped increase the popularity of cellular phones in Korea. The analyst adds that a drop in cellular costs from over 1 million won to roughly 300,000 won enabled the carriers to gain as many as 250,000 more subscribers in the month of November.
