Hello,
Well I thought that was going to be my last posting, but
since there are some like yourself who want real data/evidence,
etc.... to back up all of my quote "shit" Here it goes:

Let's first outline for the masses what I am getting at:
1. I understand all of the MSFT quote "unfair" business practices.
2. I understand that NOVELL has high quality products.
3. I don't like MSFT, they make it hard for people like me on
the bleeding edge... I am always working with an OS like
NT 5.0 ahead of the curve while they are still developing it..
I understand that my deployments on 4.0 are what I would
consider to be supported on a developing OS... I understand
all this... I won't EVER try to convince you that MSFT is
better than NOVELL technology wise... I will howver explain
to you in the same sentance that NOVELL is in real trouble
long term if they don't do something to stop the machine,
they might be the last chance on the road to no-where...
4. I use a Navigator Browser everyday... However I have to
cross develop for IE... Don't have a choice... It is the
world I live in... I wanted to believe in a company like
Netscape and it gave me new strength against the MSFT
Dynasty...
5. I understand that MSFT will eventually get the public into
upgrading ALL of their software on an anual basis... I.E.
Windows 95,98,00,01,02,03,04..... This is where they can start
really making money.... That is why I am a MSFT stock holder,
not because I like the company.... No matter how much you
hate MSFT and it's business practices.... They can also
be viewed as very inteligent business decisions....

Now to site some examples...
1. The downfall of Lotus 123 and Borland Quatro Pro....
The windows 3.xx platform was deployed with some FREE ( Depends
on your view...) software called Microsoft Works... The
interesting thing about the spreadsheet included was that
it was designed to snair the computing ignorant... Anyone
using spreadsheets at the time new the standard syntax for
123 and Quatro Pro.... But MSFT in all their wisdom had to
come out with yet a new way to add up columns which in my
opinion did not enhance technology... Which is what I am
for.... This is one of thier first steps I can clearly
remember that started the MSFT do it my way free and you will
buy my commercial product next.... I hope I don't have to
explain the rest, it is history.... I used all types of
Borland products at the time compilers, etc... I didn't like
what they were doing, but that does not mean I was stupid
enough to buy stock in Lotus or Borland.... They in my
opinion had great products and still lost the marketing game..

2. Now let's look at the whole design of the Windows OS.... They
had a chance when they deployed Windows 95 to clean up the
world a little by encapsulating applications... I.E. When you
install a new application, all of its DLL's and INI's etc...
should be encapsulated in a directory structure to prevent
all of the problems all of us are having today.... Installing,
Un-Installing, Being asked to keep the older DLL or the Newer,
With no way to know how this will effect the rest of our
systems.... This is just a plain example why the whole
windows line of OS's is junk... There answer for everything
in your MSDN plan is just reload the world... Nice guys...
Like I don't sleep enough already....

3. Why did MSFT try to screw up Java with Active X and thier
own little nightmare of Java code, to only make it more
difficult to support applications with open standards...
They scewed up Java Script as well and it's a huge waste
of time to even use this great technology... I.E. Potentially
great technology....

4. Why does the MSFT IIS3.0 server install with all the proper
MIME types to support Netscape.... I.E. another example of
how they make it hard for competition.... I will give you
one example here.... Install IIS3.0 and then try to embed
a MIDI audio file in a web page and view the page with IE
and then with Netscape.... Netscape won't work until you
figure out how to use regedt32 and traverse the nightmare
registry.... I.E. The non-technical leave this problem causing
more clients with Netscape to have problems viewing pages,
and ultimatly changing browsers...

5. Another little nightmare is go ahead and install Win NT 5.0
and then install your trusty Netscape Navigator.... You
would think that anytime you would browse on a directory
and select an HTML file that your Netscape Navigator would
view it right??? Well wrong again MSFT has conviently scewed
you again.... IE comes up to help you out.... Now start
looking in the registry to fix this.... The point is that
you keep getting scewed every way you turn if you don't stick
to the MSFT way of doing things...

6. Let's take a look at the PERL support on NT 4.0 & 5.0....
Let's take a look at Telnetd.... Which is junk....
Anything in the MSFT documentation about PERL is also singing
the toon that you should not be using PERL anyway, it is
a resource hog, etc.... It won't run as effiecient as... etc..
So they again make it difficult to run your hundreds of
Perl programs on there host by also screwing with the registry..
I would love to see a non-technical person try to get a PERL
script to run on NT.... Associate command anyone?
The point is that MSFT has never embraced standards unless
they are thiers.... we all know this....

All of these MSFT practices are just the oposite of all the
other OS vendors out their.... Sun, SGI, etc.. do whatever
they have to in order to support standards... They are too
busy inovating and creating a solid OS to worry about what
happens when you install some third parties software on their
machine.... I.E. They don't install all types of stuff in the
OS to make it difficult to use third party software...

Let's get something straight, the reason it looks like I am
woffling on the MSFT issue is that I hate MSFT as a Technology
company delivering technology that is supposed to make our
lives easier.... I Love MSFT as a stock investor, unless of
course the Government can stop this Train.... I have never put
any faith in our Government however... So don't bet your money
on it...

Do I think NOVELL can survive off of table scraps thrown down
by the MSFT giant... I think they can, look at APPLE... But
what type of existance is this... It is not the type of
existance that will give you 10 fold increases in stock price...
Just stay alive so MSFT can stay our of anti-trust problems...
Some of you think this is a good thing... I don't I would much
rather see the highly technical get involved with the next
NETSCAPE and cause MSFT more grief and maybe chip a little of
their marble.... Oh by the way do you own Apple stock...???

In my opinion MSFT would be much better off making thier OS
more stable and stay out of the application business all together..
I know, I know, I know that MSFT makes too much money off of
apps to do this.... All I am saying is that if MSFT put all
their energy into developing a UNIX replacing OS... I.E. Worried
more about Crashes, Memory Handing, Server Services, etc.. and
let third parties supply Killer Apps, the world would be a better
place to live in..... And Much Much Much more stable...

Now that I hope you understand where I am comming from you might
undestand why I would not hold much future in NOVELL stock...
Not because I don't like the company or it's products... I look
at the long term future..... It does not look good.... NOVELL
might be supply features that enhance the network today... They
might be supply features to MSFT that they need... All I can say
is look what MSFT does to every third party that gets involved..
I.E. Disk compression, Audo Streaming... They use the third
party for everything they have while they put huge money into
R&D to destroy them....

As for the comment a couple back about the IP transport in
NT.... I'm sorry if this will hurt you, but it really does
not matter... Do you think the non-technical consumer cares
what transport is supporting thier IP network... They don't..
Are they going to put a network sniffer on it to see the extra
traffic and slow responce, they won't.... So you need real
reasons to rip on MSFT... I can rip on them all day...

So what browser do you think you will be using in 5 years?
Answer: IE
Problem: I would rather be using Netscape... Yet another
story in my book about MSFT and it's wake of destruction...

What will Netscape's Stock look like in let's say 5-10 years?
Answer: 0, (They will be bought out by IBM, Lotus, etc... Most
likly to use their portal...)

Where will NOVELL be in 5-10 years....
Answer: Selling Network Managment Software
Prolem: No major gains available in Stock Price...

Where will MSFT be in 5-10 years....
Answer: Even more of a monster, chewing up and spitting out
any company who comes along with an inovative idea...

Where will MSFT's line of OS's be in 5-10 years...
Answer: Not much better than they have now.. A line of Junk..

I could go on, and on, and on... But I won't, I need to sleep
now.. and I am tired of this and this WILL be my last posting,
and you are all right, not one person likes what MSFT has done
to the industry.... Maybe the common user.... They only
reason I ever started posting here was to find out what all
the NOVELL users had in their bag of tricks to keep MSFT at
bay..... I don't think they will, I think NOVELL will be another
road sign along the way.... Kind of like IBM... Sorry...

Later,
And know I will NOT preview and fix my spelling and grammer,
if you don't like it start paying me by the hour...
