Isn't it more meaningful to compare Total Compensation, including benefits, rather than to look at Wages in isolation ? Seems to me that looking at wages in isolation is the same as complaining that inflation is 50% when the cost of a subway token is raised from $.25 to $.50 per ride. Isn't inflation (the CPI) a general price level index ?

Moreover, to what extent has increased productivity and falling commodity prices offset such wage increases ?
