TO ALL: I came across this advice re capital gains at the Motley Fool
Don't be afraid of short-term gains if by being
more aggressive, even though you pay a higher tax
rate, you're ultimately keeping more after funding Uncle
Sam. I hate giving tax money away, too, but if I get to
keep more in the long run by paying more out on
short-term capital gains, who's the loser?
Given this goal, why not a stop loss under Dell on earnings day, sell high buy back 2 to 3 weeks later when Dell is 20 to 30% lower. And repeat this strategy every quarter during the month just before earnings announcement day. Would this not beat the buy and hold strategy, particularlly if one has, as I do, some carry forward losses form years back<
