Bill - re: "one Canadian spot chip broker told me his clients did not want the Celerons and were shifting production to AMD CPUs and boards made for them. "

Whether this is true or not, I don't know. But the Canadian market is so small that I wouldn't take some sub-sub-sub broker's word for a market indicator. You can be lead to a very incorrect answer.

You and McMannis seem willing to accept a single data point, assume a slope and draw a straight line you want to draw through that point pointing in the direction you want it to point to.

Bad science.

Don't forget - the Celeron and the Pentium II and the Xeon all use the same piece of silicon. Intel merely packages the silicon doe in a different configuration for each product, with different L2 cache options, PC boards and ancillary support devices.

Re: " Intel made the shortage deliberately to force Celeron useage to increas as it will fill the slot easily enough and it is cheaply available, "

Intel is the best marketer - bar none - of semiconductors and you accuse them of a stupid blunder.

THINK, Bill!

Intel is very marketing driven. They make their money by selling products that the market wants.

If anything, I would suspect that Intel is flushing out their initial Celeron products and "priming the pump" with a flood of Celeron A's - Mendocinos.

These products - and PCs with Celeron A's inside - should become the low end machine of choice starting August 24.

Look for all your questions and fears to be cleared up by that date.
