***OT*** Sorry but I couldn't just let this one go...
Reagan wasn't a puppet, he was a master motivator and delegator who was the best president ever in my opinion.
Ronald Reagan was by no definition a "leader", let alone "one of our best presidents ever"...The man was the quintessential follower, a puppet, an actor, a mouthpiece...He was a "figurehead" placed in office by a consortium of advisors who pretty much programmed everything he did or said...There was probably less independent thought involved than with any other President in the history of the United States... I know its not unusual for a president to not write his own speeches, but Reagan had NO input. THAT is highly unusual (and documented...read a book by anyone that was there at the time, including his own advisors) As to his being a "master motivator", I'd say his level of oratory ability might be perfect for the typical junior high school student...His speeches (or, should I say his writers' speeches) were generally written for a target audience of the lowest common denominator (One of my favorites was when he got on TV with a dollar bill and a handfull of coins and tried to explain the economy to the American public: "This is a dollar bill...This is what a dollar bill is worth today...")...Fred Rogers would be proud...
"Greatest president!?" Sheesh!!! I'll stop now, but I just couldn't leave that one alone...
