Oh goodness, Penni, what is going on here? I clicked on one of your posts to talk to
you about the latest on the weather in Dallas, and saw the very elegant phrase,
"intellectual masturbation", flying out at me. I am not sure what I think about that,
because I do believe that the internet is a forum where it is exciting to talk about ideas,
and where larger exposures to issues can be had than in our busy and often narrowly
confined lives. It's neat to talk to people from all over America here, and from other
countries, as well, people I would never meet in my day-to-day, mundane world. I find
it all very stimulating, although I do believe it is possible to become so involved that real
life suffers, and that reflects a lack of balance that is unhealthy. But I definitely do
believe that open discussion is really positive, and that most people's ideas and beliefs
do evolve over time. I guess I don't think the process is as damaging as you do.

But what I really want to know is whether you have any rats in your swimming pool!!
CNN news reported today that the rats in Texas are so hot and dry that they are
invading urban flower gardens, swimming pools and everywhere else that it might be
possible to get a drink of water.

How are you doing down there? I understand that it is getting hotter, and that from the
usual weather pattern, it will probably be hot without relief until about August 24, when
the hottest part of the year usually ends gradually. Are you coping okay? Are there any
power outages, or times you are not allowed to use your air conditioning?
