"Phone- N: an instrument invented by A. G. Bell in the late 1800's in order to speed communications. It was developed and enhanced for over 100 years to the point at which it had been considered by most to be a very reliable form of communication for both business and personal needs. It has become the backbone of American industry and commerce. Only recently has it been discovered that the possibility exists that some phone communications 'never took place', thus casting doubt upon the motives of those who would initiate such communications. V: to take the action of using the instrument, ostensibly to communicate. However, recent events have shown that such actions may have 'never taken place', also casting doubt upon the motives of those who take the action."
