Where is the R&D monies going? ...the SOI technique is expected to net a major increase in chip speeds, while reducing power consumption to one-third of normal operating levels. ...introduce a 1-GHz PowerPC 750 chip in the first half of next year-well ahead of its closest rivals. ....By rolling the two techniques into a single production process, IBM is jumping at least a year ahead of the industry, analysts said.
