**** SLIGHTLY OFF TOPIC ****

Phil and all,

I need some help. I will be purchasing an iMac shortly for my daughter who is off to college in September. I know that her school offers a $50 educational discount on the iMac, but I am not sure this is the best way to go. Even the CompUSA useless coupon book does offer some nice rebates on software like Pagemaker. I've been stuck in the Wintel world for so long, that I do not know much at present about Mac software.

What is the best way to purchase an iMac (or any other Mac for that matter) so as to assure the best value? Also, what software packages would be most useful to my daughter as a first-year college student? Please E-mail me or post here if you think the information of general interest.

Sam
