Hey, c'mon, now! Not all of us (Trial Member)s are goons. nepal9, for instance, was warmly welcomed on this thread a couple of weeks ago for his excellent contributions (where is he, anyway?). I can appreciate that those of you who have forked over cash since SI started charging for its memberships might resent newcomers who clog up the message boards without paying their way, especially when their posts seem to be limited to attack mode, but without the opportunity to jump in for a while for free, lots of folks would never jump in at all. If the premise of a thread like this one (indeed of SI itself) is the synergy of ideas, wouldn't it be counter-productive to eliminate participation by "outsiders"? Now, I could just lurk around here and run on over to Yahoo or Motley Fool or Kingfine or wherever else I can muck around for free when I want to say something or ask a question and the SI world will be no worse off, but if you eliminate posting privileges for (Trial Member)s you run the risk of never hearing from positive contributors like nepal9. Having to contend with an occasional shark (and I know there have been several infesting these friendly waters lately) may just be the price you pay for swimming in the ocean, rather than at the country club pool.
Sorry to contribute to the off-topic clutter on this thread. I know there is a thread just for this type of discussion but since the subject came up here... #8-}> |
