OK, stanley, several scenarios:
I will assume a 20 MB storage as standard, either a card or disk.
A. One of everything for each device: _______ Disk: 3 drives @ $100, 3 disks @ 10. Total $330 _______ Flash: 3 cards @ 419. Total $1257.
2. One flash card shared between devices, one drive for each device: _______ Disk: 3 drives @ $100, 3 disks @ 10. Total $330 _______ Flash: 1 card @ 419. Total $419.
III. One of each for each device (as in A.), but extra disks to make up the difference. _______ Disk: 3 drives @ $100, 3 disks @ 10, 96 addtl. disks @ 10. Total $1260 ............(total storage capacity 1980 MB, price $0.636/MB) _______ Flash: 3 cards @ 419. Total $1257. ............(total storage capacity 60 MB, price $20.95/MB)
There has been no announcement of plans to build what I called a "clip-on" or external n.hand drive, so I did not include a comparison here (super-vaporware). Keep in mind that I do realize that nobody I know has seen a working n.hand disk drive, but Iomega has come out with the products which they have announced at earlier Comdex shows, so I'm not intentionally trying to spread FUD. I would really like to see both technologies make it in a big way.
