Jim: Agree with your remarks

The only K6 System I've found that I would want to buy is the Cybermax PowerMax H2 (333MHz or 300MHz) $1899 or $1799. Of course, the "leading vendors" are applying the same 1-slot, 1-bay, cheap video approach to their Celeron offerings where applicable.

Whether we like it or not (and I don't) the sub-$1000 PC phenomenon is here to stay in the intermediate term. I suspect AMD is stuck in this box until the introduction of the K6-3 or maybe even the K7. IBM's Aptiva models with the K6 have more upgrade potential than the K6-2 models. What a joke!

The lack of DVD-ROM and upgraded video models of the K6-2 Tier 1 vendors gives credence to P.T. Barnum's axiom. The fact that they are applying the same "strategy" to many of the Intel offerings should give none of us comfort. One thing is for sure -- they are making money at this game -- that's why they're doing it.

Here's the Cybermax URL: cybermaxpc.com
