Bob, no one knows where the market is going including the institutions. Many technicians will say their indicators are in the middle, and the market can go either way. For instance Jerry Favors has gone flat the market and is waiting to short ... waiting for confirming signs. Institutions are slowing taking profits off the table and not accumulating in any significant manner. Technically speaking, the bias is to the downside. Program trading is mostly based on technical analysis, so in some senses it becomes a self-fulling prophecy in the near-term.
