To the thread:

The June issue of Telecom Magazine contains an article
concerning the successful deployment of S-CDMA by TCA
Cable in the cities of Bryan and College Station, TX:

telecoms-mag.com

The advantage of S-CDMA for TCA was that no cable plant
upgrade was needed. Another rollout is planned for Amarillo,
TX. However before Terayon supporters start cheering, note
that the article indicates that a) TCA plans to deploy
DOCSIS compliant cable modems at a later date, presumably
dual-mode modems under deployment by Terayon, and b) it
will ultimately perform an HFC upgrade.

This article confirms that S-CDMA is the only viable cable
modem solution for pure coax networks. However, projecting
forward in the future, it indicates that all cable operators
feel that they will have to ultimately deploy HFC networks,
at which time S-CDMA will have significant competition from
DOCSIS compliant cable modems.

Best wishes,

Bernard Levy
