Yes, 'tonto' as a noun means 'dolt' or 'fool', but it's more used as an adjective, and the best translation I think would be 'silly' or 'stupid'. The verb 'tontear' means 'to act foolishly' or 'to speak nonsense', the noun 'tonter¡a' means 'foolishness'.

Btw, the SI poster 'tonto' is not at all tonto, tends to make sense, imho, and anyway should call herself 'tonta', being imho female.

A word in a similar vein with a little more bite to it would be 'pendejo', meaning 'fool' but with connotations of maliciousness or at least stupidity in the extreme, dangerous foolishness. The noun for the actions of a pendejo is pendejada.

Por ejemplo - a good example of a pendejada would be a vocal interest in a long position in OVIS/RMIL, and the proponent of such an interest would be a pendejo. Hope taht helps ...... salud ..... marcos
