That was put out by AT&T and MCI (might still be listed in the yahoo news for AT&T or MCI).

They were complaining about the origination/termination costs in Texas charged by the local phone companies by GTE and SWB.

I think SWB charged 12 cents, GTE charged 13 cents!!

So, anyone (i.e. AT&T's one rate plus or MCI's 5 cent sundays) gets eaten alive for a 2 to 3 cents or 7 to 11 cents loss for each long distance minute originating/terminating in Texas.

Obviously, AT&T tried to 'sneak' a rate increase in and got caught.
