I was reading one of the lastest Fortune magazines and something sparked my interest concerning web portals.

Back in the "old days" cable stations such as ESPN had to pay cable operators to include its station. Now a days, cable operators pay ESPN to include the station, and ESPN forces most cable companies to include ESPN 2.

My question: Is this the future of the internet. Will companies such as Yahoo and Infoseek have to pay the really popular sights to advertise on their page. Of course I realize the dynamics of the internet and cable are different. Nevertheless, an interesting question to raise.
