Ramsey, I'd love to see it all, but I really don't think it will go to court.

Bill Frezza asked how many times do I have to be told that Ericsson is not interested in manufacturing IS-95 equipment? I guess as a salesman, quite a few times. A Qualcomm salesman should persevere with Ericsson because both Ericsson and Qualcomm would benefit from Ericsson buying an IS-95 licence.

Often suppliers of competing products stick with their horseshoes in the face of a superior innovation. A good negotiation would result in Ericsson maintaining their wireless market share and Qualcomm sharing in that because of the intellectual property they have developed over a decade. A bad negotiation would result in a standoff. I suspect that Ericsson will have more difficulty than Qualcomm in coming to terms with a fair arrangement because of their entrenched thinking. Ericsson has a lot more to lose. Qualcomm's other licencees will satisfy subscribers whatever Ericsson does.

I think that in the next few months Ericsson and Qualcomm will have come to a mutually acceptable arrangement. 10% of the IS-95 CDMA market will be a few billion dollars per year. A shame for Ericsson to miss out on that, which is about the market share they should be able to get if they hurry along.

So Frezza will not get to have his day in court to talk about chicken wire, bubble gum and the CDMA Mafia.
