CURRENT OVERVIEW

JAWS TECHNOLOGIES VALIDATES ITS CLAIM OF HAVING THE WORLD'S STRONGEST ENCRYPTION - $5,000,000 US BREAK THE CODE CHALLENGE ENDS WITH MONEY IN THE BANK

CALGARY, Alberta -- July 28 -- JAWS Technologies Inc. (JAWZ) bet the bank and issued a worldwide challenge to all would-be hackers to crack the company's very strong 4096 bit encryption key. At the
official close of the contest at noon (MST) on Tuesday, July 28, 1998, a reported 569 entrants attempted to break the code and decrypt the message. At the completion of the 62 day contest, none of the challengers had successfully broken the code to relinquish this impressive reward.

The challenge was initiated by the organization to support its claim of having a statistically unbreakable encryption key. This scientifically acclaimed encryption product is the world's strongest commercially available software of its kind, powerfully driven by a 4096 bit key. The nearly 600 contest entrants, originating from over 10 countries, downloaded the encrypted file protected by the JAWS L5 Data Encryption code. Entrants employed any tools or methodologies they could in an attempt to decrypt the message. Despite these no-holds barred hacking rules, the plain text message remained scrambled. The file was created and encrypted by a representative of Ernst & Young. The message, in a sealed envelope stored in an independent safety deposit box, will be revealed 48 hours following the close of the contest. Visit the (JAWZ) web site [www.jawstech.com/pfm] at this time to review the detailed results of the challenge.

JAWS TECHNOLOGIES UNVEILS INDUSTRY'S MOST SOPHISTICATED SECURITY ENCRYPTION SOFTWARE

CALGARY, Alberta -- July 27 -- JAWS Technologies (JAWZ) announced today the world's strongest security encryption software to address the increasing frequency of unauthorized access to digital information. JAWS L5 Data Encryption is the industry's first encryption software product with 4096-bit key encryption strength. The most advanced encryption software currently on the market, JAWS L5 is described by experts as being statistically unbreakable. The JAWS L5 software application quickly encrypts files as a means to control access to confidential information stored on desktop PCs, handheld devices and networks and to ensure security of Internet transactions and remote file access. JAWS L5 is available for $49.95 on-line and directly from the company, and can be found in retail outlets and through resellers in September.

THE COMPANY

JAWS Technologies Inc. (JAWZ) is the owner of what is believed to be the world's strongest encryption software, JAWS L5 Data Encryption (4096 Bit). With its numerous programming enhancements and abilities, JAWS L5 Data Encryption is fully developed security software that is unbeatable for both personal and corporate security use. (JAWZ) announces the first, virtually-unbreakable suite of public and private-key encryption schemes known. Using a Base 13 algorithm, the routine uses the keys as a portion of the formulae to decrypt, making it mathematically impossible given a large enough key. Several world class product launches and marketing efforts are anticipated in the coming months.

THE MARKET AND CONDITIONS

Security has become the single most important issue in the current IT paradigm shift. As the rapid change from private system computing to public system computing continues, the opportunities for intruders and the need for improved security escalates. Amateur and highly paid professional hackers are out-pacing the abilities of the security solution providers. Billions of dollars of information could wind up in the wrong hands. Such security issues will become even more pronounced in the future.

The market is defined as any information system that requires data to be secured from intrusion. Encryption markets are undergoing rapid expansion. In the past, cryptography was used primarily by governments and large financial institutions for internal transactions. As a result of increased electronic fraud the need for encryption software is exploding into all aspects of computer programming including credit cards, payment cards, cellular phones and pagers. (JAWZ) states it has isolated two specific markets:

International Personal Computer Units Sold in 1997........... 79,938,000
North American Personal Computers Sold in 1997........... 31,477,000

The market for digital information security products is now in the early stages of rapid growth. This growth is a direct consequence of the growth in the Internet, public networks, smart card usage and other electronic commerce applications. Evidence from the revenue growth of these markets can be drawn from the records of public companies which provide security services.

FUTURE DEVELOPMENT

On its website, (JAWZ) states, "Work is near completion for the next level of encryption - 16,384 bit. We will remain at the forefront of our industry with continued product development.

"Negotiations have begun with a microchip manufacturer in an effort to transform our security software into a hardware product. Such a development will allow us to be both an 'OEM' manufacturer and a retail, consumer driven sales and marketing company. The first PC and laptop manufacturers to offer 'JAWS ONBOARD' or security built into their systems will gain significant market share over those competitors not offering security."
