Greetings DLL, and to all who love the Lord Jesus Christ. With God's Grace and understanding let us begin to look at the answer given by God to Daniel, via Gabriel, the archangel. To quickly review, as stated previously, the main theme of the Old Testament prophets was to proclaim the promise of the coming of the Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ. Daniel was the final relay runner of this great mission, which started with Abraham. ( Gen 12:3 ). Israel's captivity was nearing its completion of 70 years, as Jeremiah had stated. ( 2 Chron. 36:20-21 ). Dan. 9:24, " Seventy weeks are determined For your people ( Israel) and for your holy city,( Jerusalem ) 1. To finish the transgression. 2 To make an end of sins. 3. To make reconcilliation for iniquity. 4. To bring in everlasting righteousness. 5. To seal up vision and prophecy. 6. To anoint the Most Holy ". This 70 weeks is generally understood as 70 weeks of 7 or 490 years.( Ezeliel 4:6 ). The number " 7 " is a number used to describe a covenant people ( Ex.31:13). Each sabboth day Israel rested and declared that they were the covenant people of God. Every 7th year, was a sabatical year for Israel, that is they rested from their labours for one year, God caused everything to produce double for His people in the 7th year so they would be free to study Gods Laws, fellowship together,etc. Every 7x7 ( 49 years ) was the year of " Jubilee " for Israel; every mans debt was dissolved, all properties were restored to there original owners, release of all captives( those in jail for debt ). Please keep in mind DLL, that these ordinances given to Israel were just " foreshadows " of ONE who would come and fullfill all that is promised in covenant. The number " 10 " is the number of completion, that is after counting up to 10 , you must start at the beginning again by adding, 1, 2, 3,.....etc to go on further. The " seventy weeks " is 490 years or " 10 Jubilees ". Daniel was told that in " 10 Jubilees " ( 490 Years )the " ULTIMATE JUBILEE " would finally arrive. I will stop here DLL as I want to progress very slowly with the second half of verse 24, after we have discussed together these 70 weeks, and are confident we are of the same mind in it's proper interpretation.
