SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 3, 1998--VLSI
Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:VLSI) today announced that Richard M. Beyer,
president and chief operating officer, has left the company for
personal reasons.

VLSI has no immediate plans to name a replacement, and Stein
has re-assumed the duties held by Beyer. The executives who reported
to Beyer now report to Stein.
