After being in the semiconductor industry for many, many
years, I've come to realize that lays off's usually come
midway or toward the end of cycles, usually. This is
not a scientific observation, just a feel. I think they
are an indication of severe retraction and that helps to
form the basis for the next cycle, somehow. Pure black
magic and mystery but clearly cyclical, psychological and
cause and effect.
