Random thoughts. Some of the larger companies should be part of any internet commerce investing strategy. Aside from the obvious MSFT & NSCP, I think ORCL, HWP, and CPQ are companies to watch. They are all facing challenges and none can be pure plays but they all have a lot to offer. Not to be a market timer but it may be a question of timing. Once HWP takes the requisite haircut (it is just insanely valued for a company in a down period) it will be worth looking at even more closely. I noticed with interest that Egghead chose Oracle for its internet operations from stem to stern. That makes one sit up and take notice. And for the life of me I can't understand those who would short EGGS until they see how this pans out. Speaking of which the ZAP thing is coming into clearer focus. While the accounting shell game should make one wary...this looks like it could be a winner. They now have us all on the edge of our seats wondering who is the big internet company they are about to acquire per their recent conference call comments... andovernews.com They've already been rebuffed by XCIT and Whowhere so I guess they are thinking big! Will it be GNET? CMGI? Or...NSCP? I bet some of the downtrodden net issues will get a shot in the arm once this acquisition is announced!
