Nortel Signs OEM Agreement With Xylan to Support 1 Meg Modem Network Solutions
CALABASAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 3, 1998--Xylan Corp. Nasdaq:XYLN - news) Monday announced the signing of an agreement that gives Nortel (Northern Telecom) OEM and distribution rights to Xylan OmniStack and OmniSwitch products for 1-Meg Modem network solutions.

Xylan equipment provides secure, cost-effective aggregation of 1-Meg Modem data traffic and is typically used together with Nortel Magellan Passport ATM switches in a 1-Meg Modem system.

About 1-Meg Modem
Nortel's 1-Meg Modem is a splitterless and filterless, mass-market, high-speed data solution that offers
consumers an Internet connection that's more than 17 times faster than the fastest analog modem.
The 1-Meg Modem is being deployed by several United States providers including Transwire Communications
of New York, MegsINet of Chicago, and AGIS Communications of Detroit, and several smaller institutions,
ISPs, and service providers. To date, Nortel has booked more than $1 billion in orders for the product,
representing the potential for more than one million end-user lines.
This plug-and-play service can be installed without a service call. The digital modem has the form and fit of standard analog modems, supporting up to 1 Mbps data rates (and simultaneous analog
voice services) using any existing telephone jack.
The 1-Meg Modem is being introduced on the Nortel DMS-100, DMS-10, and DMS-500 central office
switching systems, as well as the Nortel Meridian SL-100 PBX. It will be available for deployment off
non-Nortel central offices switches using the Nortel AccessNode Express.
