"Does it make logical sense that the people with the Faith of Abraham did not continue in
God's Old Covenant and needed a New Covenant, when they already believed in the
New Covenant message (obviously even though it was not called the New Covenant
message yet!)? "

No one could continue in the old covenant because it was simply a shadow of the new and better covenant. The old depended on man's efforts and his work to reconcile man to God. This was an impossible task. The new depends on God's efforts.
Man could not obey the laws of God without having a new nature. This is why the (old covenant)oc was but a shadow---it could not restore man's fallen nature and baptize him in the Holy Spirit. This was Jesus's ministry as the Incarante Son.
This is why the new covenant(nc) was the real object and substance of all the shadows and symbols contained in the worldly nation of Israel and the earthly temple.
God would come and take man's sinful nature upon himself and in return give man his Godly nature. This is the new covenant. The actual righteouness of God in man. Man could not receive the new nature of God until God had removed his sinful nature on the Cross. Abraham and the Old T saints had the hope of this promise but not the reality. They simply could not receive the new nature and baptism of the Holy Spirit because Jesus has not yet done his work on calvary.

It is Israel as a whole who did not continue in God's old covenant. Even Abraham did not continue in the oc. It was Abraham's faith or his simple trust and believing in God's word why God counted it as righteouness. He was looking towards the hope of God's redemption.

In the love of Christ. Thank you for this precious study. I have been a ardent student of the OT and NT since l970 and find it becomes more and more beautiful and edifying with all the time.
