U.S. Vendors Dominate IC Photomask Market Says The Information
Network

NEW TRIPOLI, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--August 4, 1998--U.S. photomask vendors dominate nearly every aspect of the worldwide market for IC production, according to the report Mask Making, Inspection, and Repair: Market Analysis and Strategic Issues, recently published by The Information Network, a New Tripoli, PA- based market research company.

''The photomask making process involves a plethora of equipment,'' notes Dr. Robert N. Castellano, President of The Information Network. ''When we look at the marketplace, we find that U.S. companies dominate the completed photomask market, exposure tool, deposition tool, inspection tool, and repair tool sectors. It is only the resist coater tool sector that is dominated by a non-U.S. vendor.''

DuPont Photomask (NASDAQ:DPMI - news) will be the market leader with a 21.6% share of the $1.22 billion market, slightly ahead of Photronics (NASDAQ:PLAB - news) with a 20.6% share.

In the E-beam and laser pattern generator exposure sector, Etec (NASDAQ:ETEC - news) continued to dominate the market with an 83.3% share of unit shipments in 1997.

In the reticle inspection market, KLA-Tencor (NASDAQ:KLAC - news) dominated the market with a 67.1% share in 1997, followed by Applied Materials (NASDAQ:AMAT - news).

In the mask repair sector, Micrion (NASDAQ:MICN - news) continued to dominate the market with its focused ion beam (FIB) and laser repair systems.
