Gus,

You have a good grasp of the Fibre Channel situation. What EMC has experienced has taken everyone by surprise. It appears that after years of dallying, defining, and developing the market is set to explode. I am very familiar with the SSA/Fibre Channel emergence story and was involved in the formation of the SSA assn. The technical arguments go on ad nauseum but SSA appears to be losing as much for competitor distrust of IBM as any other reason. In those days Seagate, Quantum, H-P, Compaq, WDC, and Fujitsu were just too competitively involved to tolerate a standard fostered by IBM. It would have meant way too much reliance on IBM technical support in the early design stages. Thus Fibre Channel is as much a political child as a technical "wunderkind" IMO.

Al and Dick Egan are DD war survivors together who have tempered their relationship with their own wars with each other over the ages.

Qustion for you: Any thoughts on other FC plays?
Best,
Stitch
