MW -
because Dell's very close to betting Compaqs market share

Dell is doing great, but don't get carried away - CPQ's reported numbers for 1Q and 2Q did not show sales out from channel inventory, CPQ's real sales to customers were about twice Dell's (a little over 3M units per quarter). Dell has a ways to go to get to the top slot. I hope people were not buying based on the assumption that CPQ had somehow fallen on it's sword and dropped 50% in unit volume.

If you are correct, and people are buying based on this assumption, it will be a rough 3Q for Dell when CPQ's real numbers go back on the board. I would hope the analysts are smarter than that... I know folks on this thread are. If present trends continue Dell will overtake CPQ in PC unit volume in 2-3 years. CPQ will remain comfortably ahead in revenue based on high end products and services revenue.
