Wal Mart and Dell are leaders because of their excellence in logistics and supply chain management. I could easily envision a computer build to order while you wait store in a wal mart store. Wal Mart got burned by the PCs when the Pentium came out. Tbey had a huge supply of obsolete 486s that they were charging pentium prices for. Now they carry only a few PCs at each store. I am sure they realize that they are not only passing up good money but losing market share to the likes of Best Buy becaue of their lack of PCs. Any marketing major can tell you that for Wal Mart to win market share in the electronic entertainment industry, they should get back into computers. And Dell has the build to order model down pat. But Dell could benefit from spontaneous shoppers at wal mart. they do not have a distribution outlet. by buying amgv they gain the worlds largest one. And by wal mart using dell they avoid past mistakes of inventory obsolescense. This is an old rumor that dell and walmart will eventually get together based upon these potential synergies.
