BR, I agree about Chambers beating a dead horse and trying to win the race. At the shareholder meeting in April I specifically asked Mory about this claim of Cisco that they would be number 1 in Remote Access this year. He just smiled and said that the remote access game is over with most of the ISPs having either Ascend or USR equipment installed since 1996. Ascend had the most ports followed by USR. Cisco is definitely talking in dollar terms and that too they might including some other equipment they have to sell with the RA equipment to make it functional. For example, the AS5800 needs the 7200 router.
Basically he said Cisco came in very late into the battlefield after all the warriors had gone with the battle done and they are shouting the most as there is nobody who cares about this lower margin business now. Core switching is where the action and moola is and unfortunately Cisco aint there too. They truly are focused on the enterprise (their remote access was mainly selling there) and not the carrier space. One day Wall Street will understand what Mory has been saying all this while that Cisco has no focus and major products on the WAN side besides routers and ASND's PE will adjust up.
