August 5, 1998

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CHARLESTON, S.C., AUG. 4 /PRNewswire/ via NewsEdge Corporation -- Andrew Barrett, Chief Executive Officer of Home Account Network, announced here today that Alix W. Hoffman, an executive with outstanding credentials in the provision of home banking solutions to financial institutions, has joined the company as Vice President of Sales. As part of a major ramping up of Home Account's sales and marketing capabilities, Anne W. Shuford will also join Home Account as Business Development Manager. Shuford has extensive experience in rolling out financial planning programs to a variety of markets. Internal promotions in the sales area were also announced.

"Home Account is poised on the threshold of major growth," said Barrett, who has guided the software company through product development and installation at First Tennessee Bank, its first customer site. "We have a happy, satisfied user of our Canopy product suite and major institutions have expressed keen interest in our Internet banking and financial planning offerings. With the addition of Alix and Anne to our team, we're full steam ahead to make the market impact these outstanding products deserve. "Home Account is a leading provider of Internet-based software solutions that enable banks and other financial institutions to provide online financial management, bill payment, and financial analysis and planning to consumers.

Alix Hoffman comes to Home Account from Electronic Commerce Systems, Inc. where, as Senior Vice President/National Sales & Marketing Manager, he was responsible for sales of software products and consulting services and played a key role in the development of alternative distribution channels. Previously he had served as a senior vice president with sales and marketing responsibilities at Bisys Inc. and at CheckFree, formerly Servantis Systems. His assignments at CheckFree included both retail banking products and services and all aspects of the checks business unit. A graduate of the University of Tennessee, Hoffman also worked for Banctec Systems and NCR Corp.

"Internet banking is the place to be," Hoffman declared, "and the financial services industry has worked its way through the early development stages. Now Home Account's Canopy suite will enable banks and other institutions to plunge into this growth arena with mature, robust, brandable products that offer the ease-of-use and functionality customers demand."

Anne Shuford is a Certified Financial Planner who comes to Home Account from First Union National Bank, where she was Vice President and Manager of the Smart Track(TM) Processing Center. She spearheaded the product and workflow design of a suite of mass market financial planning products sold through the institutional and retail bank sales channels. She also served as the lead development manager for First Union's retirement gap analysis report, which is currently sold by the bank's 401(K) Institutional Trust area. Previously she had held several positions in First Union's trust department, consulting with high net worth clients about financial planning strategies for wealth accumulation and wealth transfer. Ms. Shuford was also a trust officer with Wachovia Bank. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia, and completed the Trust Management Certification Program at Campbell University. She is a member of the Institute For Certified Financial Planners, the International Association of Financial Planners, and the Queen's College CFP Mentoring Program in Charlotte, NC.

"Home Account takes online banking to the next level," said Anne Shuford. "Canopy Advisor empowers customers to evaluate and optimize their current patterns in borrowing, cash flow, and investing through one integrated web- based application. For the institution, it generates a rich repository of customer information that maximizes Internet banking profitability through targeted, one-to-one cross-selling opportunities."

Dennis Burgett, who has handled channel sales for Home Account for the past year, was also named Business Development Manager. He has responsibilities in both the direct sales and channel sales areas. Before joining Home Account, Burgett spent 10 years with Sun Microsystems as a regional systems engineering manager, then as a sales rep for Sun hardware and software products. His relationship with Home Account began when a predecessor company, SolTech Systems Corporation, became one of his accounts at Sun.

John Ferrigan has been named Business Development Manager. He had been Marketing Programs Manager. Before joining Home Account, Ferrigan spent five years with NCR Corporation/AT&T Global Information Solutions, where he sold retail delivery and branch automation equipment and services and a data warehousing product for financial institutions.
