Andrew, Sony Corp. is a lumbering behemoth. It's a bad sign when the
yen has depreciated more than 12% against the dollar this past year &
Sony can't even get a viable growth strategy in place. And this was
one of the few Japan darlings on the Street until recently in part
because of its export reach. The boys from Sony are bad news but the
PR firm representing EIDOS says there are no official comments from
either side in spite of the press reports.

I too hope CEO Cornwall knows what he is doing. With Psygnosis he
will be taking on a lot more overhead. Whatever happened to out-
sourcing as a viable strategy? With Sony he will be limiting TR's
potential reach. Why can't someone tell Cornwall that it's about +
EPS and not squandering equity or R&D costs left and right. Perhaps
Cornwall can take a look at THQ's growth strategy in the past 14
quarters of positive EPS with minimal acquisitions.

Vertical-integrated companies in this sector like BROD have done
lousy. On the other hand, horizontally integrated ones like THQ
have blown away earnings growth consistently for years. MPRS is
another company with huge proprietary efforts that have poor growth
in spite of hit games. Doesn't EIDOS understand the new economy?

Can't Cornwall see what happened to BROD in spite of Riven and its
top-selling sequel and the makers of top selling Carmen Sandiego?
Can't he take a look at GT Interactive: the lumbering giant with
top selling games according to PC DATA and lousy negative trailing
earnings? It's about controlling costs. Let's let Sony dig its own
hole at least for a year. EIDOS does not need Psygnosis or Sony.

Jeff, TR4 (which will be named Lara Croft...) will have a new engine
and is scheduled for release in Q4 of 1999 with the release of the
Paramount movie.
