La Bella, who resigned last month as chief of the Justice Department task force investigating campaign finance practices - acknowledged that they had written memorandums to the Attorney General advocating the naming of an independent counsel." "Mr. Freeh testified that the investigation involved 'a core group of individuals who are indisputably covered'" [by the independent counsel law]. "Mr. Burton asked whether that included President Clinton and Vice President Al Gore. "'Yes sir,' Mr. Freeh responded. But he didn't say whether any evidence had been found suggesting that Mr. Clinton or Mr. Gore had committed crimes." You make dislike Clinton's policies and dislike the man in general, but that is what we have elections for. What is being orchestrated within the right wing is an attempt to nullify an election. This is a grave threat to a democratic form of government. The issue is not whether you approve of Clinton's policies or sex life. The issue is whether you as a responsible citizen will acquiesce to the collective will of the electorate even if they elect someone with whom you disagree. One of the principal reasons why the United States is a financial bastion is the stability of the government. If the world perceives this stability as illusory and suspects that the US government will be toppled by juntas consisting of right wing malcontents the markets will react violently and it will take a long time for this country to regain its status as a safe haven. Think long and hard about the Pandora's box you are opening. CTC
