CNN Financial News 8/5 All eyes on Visto

Visto's vision of universal access hasn't gone
unnoticed by investors.
The company recently landed an additional $9
million in its third round of venture capital funding,
primarily from the firms New Enterprise Associates
and CMG @Ventures.
Including the latest round of funding, the company
has raised $14.1 million since its founding in 1996.
And big-name companies also have been eyeing
Visto, which already has formed several notable
partnerships.
Most recently, the company teamed up with
Compaq Computer Corp. (CPQ) to provide small
and medium businesses with Web-based access to
information on their office computers. Under the
relationship, Compaq will distribute a co-branded
version of the Visto Briefcase as part of its Compaq
Online Services.
Visto also has an agreement with Microsoft Corp.
(MSFT), enabling the software giant's Outlook users
to access their mail, calendar and contacts over the
Web with Visto technology.
Brackhill sees similar deals in Visto's future. The
company is targeting telecommunication firms, Web
portal and Internet appliance companies, all of which
Brackhill says will benefit from Visto's "value-added
service."
The company also plans to go public, though
Brackhill said it was "too soon to say" when that
would happen.
But according to Mobile Insights' Purdy, the
company's heyday may not be too far off.
"Visto is really going to come in to force in the
next decade," he said.
