Yogi, you've got brains. And vision/clarity. If business/government really worked in a cost-efficient manner, business and government would use centralized data storage to a far greater degree.
And maybe that's the wave of the future, where desktop PCs, laptop PCs, dumb terminals, Palm Pilots, whatever, will resemble each other more and more. I mean, is there really that much difference between these devices, anyway?
The truth is, the current PC is a monster in terms of power that isn't being used (except maybe for gaming).
But cost-efficiency is more of an ideal than a reality. It's a catch-all phrase that people give lip-service to, without really paying that much attention to.

PS: Yes, the government and big business should save a fortune if they converted to a centralized data/software storage system. But just because an idea seems to make sense, doesn't mean it will work (in government, at least.) |
