Some followup on Eric B's Chicago meeting info
By now, everyone has seen this: #reply-5407416
I was there, too, and the description is good enough.
Some points to expand on:
China: Remember that Eric had just been in China himself, meeting with some high-level government types.

Notice also that COMS seems to continue to do well in Asia... whereas CSCO says that sales there are still slow. Eric B says "We're going to stay Number One in China, which is a lot better than being Number One in Lichtenstein."
Microsoft partnerships: Remember that there are a number of 3Com products based on Windows NT, which Microsoft would really like to get into the telephony and networking world. Consider the EdgeServer, for example...

I think you'll find additional Win NT included in future offerings, too. After all, once you have the capability to put a Win NT PC in the Total Control Rack, or the SuperStack II stack, you might as well run all kinds of stuff on it!
Partnerships: 3ComBoy wrote "CSCO has spurred partnerships by going head to head with the NT's, LU, ERICY's of the world." He means spurned. COMS isn't trying to do the backbone, which is where the telco-manufacturers want to compete... COMS wants the space between the telco's and the user... and this makes it fit better into partnerships. Whereas CSCO is their natural competition, and that makes it harder for them.
Just my thoughts, of course.
