Directional antennae being tried for the first time in a GSM system. By directing the signals from the base station in the direction of the handset, interference and therefore power requirements from the handset and capacity would be improved.

More technology. More and more. All pouring in to make cdmaOne more and more competitive since the more the interface becomes dominant instead of the energy consumed in the handset itself, the more advantage cdmaOne enjoys. These advances are good for GSM and analog too, but they preferentially assist cdmaOne.

Thanks Diamond H and Don for your kind comments. That company developing software, mentioned in that url, would also be a bandwidth improver as they are one which could come up with p-----g on demand, peripheral processing, 'Babe' controlled price plans instead of the old 200 minutes per month, peak off peak rubbish.

The Smart Phone Gregg mentioned must be a Web machine. Q.com has been chasing IP for nearly a decade, so they won't have missed the importance of the Web in a handset. They have Unwired Planet, 3Com and other arrangements all heading quickly in that direction.

[Good for you on your 'amateur' predictions. Jon was emphatic on gap filling though the overall market seems more relevant than Q.com doings at the moment].
