CLINTON BLOCKS WHITE HOUSE TESTIMONY WITH EXECUTIVE PRIVILEGE

President Clinton has moved to block White House lawyers from having to answer questions in the Monica Lewinsky investigation by reviving an executive privilege claim he abandoned two months ago rather than take it to the Supreme Court, Thursday's WASHINGTON POST is reporting in Bulldog editions.

'The new executive privilege claim could spark a separate legal case, delaying Starr's questioning of the White House lawyers for weeks or longer, perhaps past the date later this summer Starr may otherwise be prepared to send Congress a report of possible impeachable offenses by Clinton," Sue Schmidt and Ruth Marcus report in a Page One scream headline.

FORMER GREEN BERET TO SUE CNN FOR $100 MILLION

A Vietnam veteran from Key West is poised to become the first participant in Operation Tailwind to sue CNN and TIME WARNER for reporting that U.S. troops used nerve gas against women, children and American defectors during a secret 1970 mission to Laos, Thursday's MIAMI HERALD is set to report.

Keith Plancich, 48, is a former Green Beret who will seek $100 million in damages for himself, former colleagues and Montagnard tribesmen who fought to disrupt North Vietnamese supply lines.

"Pictures of him were shown six times," Plancich's lawyer tells the HERALD. "They did this story and never tracked him down to ask his account."

CNN spokesman Steve Horwath declined comment.
