And another one>>>>Florida Continues to Invest in Latest Fingerprint Technology; 34 Printrak LiveScan Units on Order
ANAHEIM, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 4, 1998--Florida's Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) continues investing in new technology to protect its citizens and solve crimes.
Following an extensive test of livescan (inkless) fingerprint capture technology, the FDLE has awarded a $1.8 million contract to Printrak International Inc. (Nasdaq:AFIS) for 34 Printrak LiveScan Stations that will become part of a statewide, real-time booking and identification system.
The Printrak LiveScan Station electronically captures fingerprints, mugshots and arrest data. These real-time identification systems match identity in minutes versus systems that require hours or even days, which saves time and money. Law enforcement agencies equipped with Printrak systems apprehend and detain criminals quickly and efficiently.
The livescan evaluation project was launched in 1996 and initially involved 20 Printrak units bundled with fingerprint quality verification stations, according to Daniel J. Driscoll, president of Printrak's digital justice division.
"The FDLE is committed to its technology advantage over crime," Driscoll said. "Printrak customers have had real-time identification technology available for years, and I'm glad Printrak continues to be a part of Florida's law enforcement team."
The FDLE, with headquarters in Tallahassee, Fla., is engaged in a multiyear technology initiative that calls for upgrading and integrating its automated fingerprint identification (AFIS) and computerized criminal history (CCH) systems. When the statewide system becomes fully operational later this year, a new Printrak AFIS will be interfaced to the CCH and networked with five county-level AFIS and more than 54 Printrak LiveScan units to provide real-time identification for the most highly populated areas.
The purchase of additional Printrak LiveScan units is likely in future years, Driscoll said.
Under the FDLE program, livescan units continue to be deployed to county sheriffs' offices on the basis of suspect booking volume. Some county agencies have purchased units independent of the state program.
