Brazil telecom buildout. There was a good article in the August 4 Christian Science Monitor. Some interesting factoids:

1) There are currently 20 million Brazilians on the waiting list for a phone.

2) A phone line costs up to $9000, and although no average price is given, people in subsidized housing are banding together and paying $5000 for a pirated phone system (someone taps into a public phone and then creates a switchboard with a phone for each participant - in the example given it was 13 families splitting the cost.).

3) 30% of all calls don't go through.

4) Lots of cross talk.

5) At least 90% of Brazilians do not currently have phones.

Hope CDMAOne gets a lot of this, since it sounds like an explosive market.
