I was being sarcastic in my response. Sorry, the customer loyalty, product lines and market growth all seem to indicate quite the opposite of your intial post.

First the Hyperion Side:

On the applications side, (help from some hyperion folks please) hyperion has limited competition.

Their core business is financial consolidation and i think they have around 3000 global customers, it's not a growth business (10% to 15% annual growth) but they have a solid reputation and a high level of credibility with personnel at the controller and cfo levels of these global companies. Consolidation is a tool used to integrate and consolidate financial reporting from multiple platforms, applications, departments and divisions. it's the kind of thing that allows major companies to speed up their end of period closing process and provide the senior management with detailed results about the business quickly.

Enterprise, Pillar and MBA are budgeting and analytical applications. they're worth a demonstration to get the idea of what they do, but in essence they provide powerful, secure and distributed tools to allow companies to do financial forecasting and analysis. Instead of a hodge-podge on excel spreadsheets, these applications provide a secure and controlled way to handle all of the complex process that goes into planning the operations of a global company. first you look at things by product line, then by division, perhaps by region. variables can change...and those changes can be distributed in a global fashion. worth a visit to the website. Or talk with a few customer's, you'll get the picture then.

This business (50% of revenues) is growing at roughly 60% to 80% a year.

The primary (but very minor) competitor for the applications business is comshare.

Hyperion also has a global service and support capability for its customers.

I'll talk about the arbor side later, it's more complex.
