Eddie:

One of the posters on this thread visited Compaq's web site last month, and after configuring their computer, the final page of CPQ's web site (I believe) told him to visit their local (computer store, etc.) distributor to purchase such a model....Now, this is not buying "on-line"....I have heard other reports that you can buy direct from Compaq, but the price is the same as buying Compaq for the local distributor in your neighborhood....why pay the same price and wait a few days, when you can pick it up for the same price at the store.

Bottom line: (From this information) Compaq is not REALLY selling on-line, nor are they really selling direct.

If you have any information to the contrary, would love to hear it.
