MY THOUGHTS on DELL's recent woes: Lee, we all like to see our investments move up. In recent days, we're all happy to see any upward movement. I would agree that the short-term people on this thread are much more concerned about it than we are, but the longs have a bunch of profits to protect, too.
Jim P. said earlier this week, that the Bull was dead, and that even DELL's fundamentals (which we all know to be very bright) won't save it now. I do agree with what he's said, but I disagree with the timing of his statement.
But, that gets back to why the longs are concerned. They want to know: Is this the time it doesn't rebound? I think not. The fundamentals of the US economy remain intact. The markets just got too far ahead of themselves given the exposure of many US corporations to Asia.
Fundamentally, DELL is on fire. Even with Asia, DELL will perform extremely well on a fundamental basis. As far as Asia goes, I would expect growth to be muted for DELL there, but don't forget the component cost savings of parts going into DELL computers that come from Asia. Even with Asia flat, DELL's numbers will improve.
Does Asia spill over to Europe and Latin America? That's the question we all need to be watching for the answer to.
