AVICI PLANS 320 GBPS FAT INTERNET PIPES
Avici Systems announced its intention to incorporate Nortel's 32-channel, Dense-Wavelength
Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology into its forthcoming IP terabit packet switch/router.
Avici said it plans to build a platform capable of aggregating IP traffic from up to 16 OC-192s
onto a single Fat Internet pipe. Nortel holds a 20% equity stake in Avici. (http://www.avici.com)

NORTEL TO OFFER 32-CHANNEL, OC-192 DWDM BY Q4, DEVELOPS
DATA/OPTICAL INTEGRATED MGT
Nortel will introduce 32-channel Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) capability for
its 10 Gbps optical networking platform (OC-192 in North America and TN-64X internationally)
by year's end. Nortel's Multi-wavelength Optical Repeater (MOR) Plus System will also
introduce add-drop multiplexing capability. Separately, Nortel said that it would integrate
Cabletron Systems' SPECTRUM Enterprise Manager into its own Integrated Network
Management (INM) Broadband solution. The work aims to provide a customized view of optical
